If you have recently browsed the baby department at your local mass-market store, or better yet, a baby superstore, you have undoubtedly seen a plethora of baby products adorning the aisles. There is so much stuff made for babies that it’s a little bit ridiculous. While some of the items for new baby are a necessity, many of them are not. Since you live in an apartment, the chances are that you are limited on the amount of space available for new baby items. Luckily, this brief guide will let you know what items are a must-have for your new little bundle of joy.
A Crib
Your baby needs somewhere to sleep. Cribs are also the perfect place to put your baby when you need to take a shower or just get a moment of peace. The only thing you need for the crib is a mattress and a sheet. Crib bumpers and any extra bedding are now discouraged due to suffocation risks.
A Diaper Caddy
Since you have limited space, it may not be practical to have a changing table in addition to a dresser for your baby. One option is to use a padded changing pad and place it on top of the dresser. Another, more versatile, option is to use a diaper caddy. A diaper caddy is a container that is made to store wipes, diapers, and diaper rash cream in a handy container that you can easily move from room to room. Most diaper caddies also include a foldable changing pad that you can lay out on the floor or the couch before you change your baby’s diaper. You can either get something specifically made for this purpose or improvise with a cute little basket or box.
A Baby Carrier
Babies love to be held. Instead of placing your baby in the crib every time you need to get things done, you should get a baby carrier. There are many different kinds of baby carriers on the market. Some of them allow the baby to face out and look around, while others are more ergonomic for your baby but require them to face inward.
Baby Supplies
Of course, you are going to need the necessities, like diapers, wipes, bottles, and a variety of clothing for your little one. Just remember, when they are babies, they stay home the majority of the time. You only need a few cute outfits for the first few months. Besides that, stock up on bodysuits and receiving blankets (to wipe up all the spit up). As far as bottles are concerned, babies can be very picky about these. Start with just one from a certain brand. That way, if the baby doesn’t like it, you aren’t out a bunch of money. Once you have figured out which brand your baby prefers you can stock up.
Babies really don’t need that much to survive. They need somewhere to sleep, food to eat, clothes to wear, and your affection around the clock.
