spring-cleaning-tips-and-tricks

With temperatures on the rise, this means one thing: spring is coming. And with spring, not only should you expect warmer weather, but now is the time to start some spring cleaning in your home. By doing some spring cleaning, you will not only feel better, but you’ll start the new season on the right foot! Here are some tips and tricks to get your home so clean that it sparkles!

Start with a List

To keep your spring cleaning as organized as possible, start by writing a list of everything you would like to clean and organize. Not only will this help you remember what you want to get done, but it will also help you stay on track! To make your list, start by getting a pen and paper or opening the notes app on your phone. Then, make a to-do list of everything you want to get done, as well as make a note of how you plan on cleaning each item or space. Once your tasks are laid out, prioritize them. Not all chores are created equal—some demand immediate attention while others can wait. Consider adding deadlines to tasks, especially if you're juggling spring cleaning with other responsibilities in your life. Once you’re done making your to-do list, you can start cleaning and checking items off!

Clean Room by Room

Start by cleaning room by room instead of doing a little cleaning in the kitchen and then a little cleaning in the bedroom. If you clean room by room instead of cleaning a little here and there, it will help you stay organized and finish faster. Pick a room to start with, clean everything in that room, and then mark it off your list. Once you have marked that room off the list it’s time to move to the next room.

Organize and Clean Out the Clutter

Not only is it important to get your home clean, but it’s essential to organize and declutter. Start by going through your closet and donating clothes you don’t wear anymore. To organize your closet, you can buy shoe organizers to help you find both shoes in a pair faster. While you’re at it, go ahead and take some time to organize your junk drawer and throw away things that are just straight up junk. Then, you can turn your junk drawer into a drawer that’s useful. Decluttering will help your space feel more organized and help you feel more at home.

Be Sure to Clean Your Windows and Blinds

Often, when we deep clean our homes, we forget to clean the windows, blinds, and even curtains! To clean your windows, take some glass cleaning spray and paper towels, then give a good scrub. Once your windows are cleaned, take a duster and dust your blinds. After they are dusted, give them a good wipe down with a wet wipe. If you have curtains and they are machine washable, toss them in the wash. If they can’t go in the washing machine, dust them off and vacuum them. Before you know it, your windows will be letting more natural light into your home than they ever did before.

Clean Your Appliances

Even though you may wipe down your appliances every once and a while, you may not be cleaning them as thoroughly as you should. Spring cleaning gives you the opportunity to deep clean your appliances. Most ovens, washers, and dishwashers have a “clean” button, so to start cleaning them, just tap the “clean” button. Next, get some hot, soapy water and scrub down the inside of your microwave. Then go through your fridge and throw away all the expired food. Once you have organized your food, give your fridge a good scrub with some disinfectant wipes. Finally, you should consider cleaning your dryer. Start by cleaning out the lint trap in your dryer by vacuuming it out. Not only will this help you dry your clothes faster, but it will help prevent fires from happening in your home.

Revitalize Floors and Carpets

As you continue your spring cleaning, be sure not to overlook your floors and carpets. Start by sweeping or vacuuming to remove any surface dirt, debris, or pet hair. For hard floors, mop with a solution of warm water and floor cleaner to restore shine and remove any stubborn stains. Be sure to check with your landlord about what kind of floors your home has so you can ensure you have the right cleaner for your floors. If you have carpet, consider renting a carpet cleaner or hiring a professional service to deep clean and remove dirt and allergens that are embedded in the carpet. If you cannot afford a carpet cleaner or a professional cleaning, you can spot-treat any stains with a carpet cleaner spray. Revitalizing your floors will not only improve the appearance of your home but also contribute to a healthier environment.

Refresh Linens and Bedding

If you haven’t had the time to refresh your linens and bedding, then spring is the perfect time to do so. To start, strip your bed and wash all sheets, pillowcases, and blankets according to their care instructions. While your bedding is in the wash, take this opportunity to vacuum your mattress to remove dust mites and allergens. You should also consider rotating or flipping your mattress to ensure even wear. Once your bedding is clean and dry, make your bed with fresh linens and add a few drops of essential oils to your laundry to add a subtle but natural scent. Plus, after all your hard work, climbing into a freshly made bed at the end of a long day of cleaning will feel like a reward in itself.

Deep Clean Your Bathroom

Last but certainly not least, spring cleaning gives you the opportunity to deep clean your bathroom. Start by emptying your counter and shower. Then, wipe your counter and sink with some disinfectant wipes. To clean your mirror, use some glass cleaner and a rag until the mirror shines! Next, spray your shower with some disinfectant spray, scrub it with a sponge, and then rinse off the residue. Finally, to clean your toilet, make sure you wipe down the outside of the toilet with disinfectant wipes then clean the inside of the toilet with disinfectant spray and a toilet brush. When you’re done, your bathroom will smell amazing and feel fresh and clean!

Once you have finished all your spring cleaning, take this opportunity to create a cozy and inviting home that you can enjoy throughout the spring season. Add soft throws and decorative pillows in pastel colors to your sofa or armchairs. To bring the lovely spring weather inside, add fresh flowers or potted plants throughout your home. Consider lighting candles or diffusing essential oils with relaxing scents such as lavender or eucalyptus to create a soothing and calming ambiance. Taking the time to enhance the atmosphere of your home by cleaning will turn it into a welcoming sanctuary where you can unwind and rejuvenate after a busy day.
