Flowers-and-Hearts

It’s that time of year again! Love is in the air and people are spending more and more time with their significant others. Since Valentine's Day is right around the corner, you may be looking around your apartment and wondering how you can make your home a little more festive. Perhaps these sweet and subtle DIY Valentine's Day décor ideas will help you fall in love with your home!

Heart Artwork

A simple and easy DIY project you can start with is heart artwork. Gather two poster boards (one in pink or red and another one in white), a pair of scissors, some craft glue, and a frame. Start by cutting the colorful poster board into a heart, then paste the heart onto the white piece of poster board. Once everything has dried you can place the art into a frame and hang it in your apartment wherever you like! Not only is this DIY great for Valentine’s Day, but you can choose to keep the art up all year.

Valentine's Day Centerpiece

Another easy Valentine’s DIY project is a centerpiece for your coffee table. To create a Valentine’s Day centerpiece, get some pink, red, and white cardstock, a pair of scissors, some tree branches, a vase or two, and a hot glue gun. Start by cutting out tiny hearts from your multicolored cardstock. Then, take the tree branches you have collected and put them inside your vases. Once you’re done setting up, start hot gluing the hearts to the tips of the branches. Make sure you glue two hearts together so you can't see the hot glue on the back of the paper hearts. Once the hearts have dried place your new centerpiece wherever you would like.

Yarn-Wrapped Hearts

Creating yarn-wrapped hearts can be a bit more challenging, but the result is rewarding. To create yarn-wrapped hearts, you will need some cardboard, yarn (your color of choice), a heart shape, a pen, a pair of scissors, and some masking tape. Start by printing out the heart shape, cutting it out, and then tracing the heart shape onto cardboard. Cut out the cardboard heart, then use a piece of masking tape to secure the end of the yarn to the heart. Start wrapping yarn randomly around the cardboard heart until you can no longer see any cardboard. Once the heart is completely covered with yarn, cut the string, and knot it. Make sure you cut off any excess yarn, and there you have it: your first yarn-wrapped heart! To make more, just repeat this process. Once you have created the perfect number of yarn-wrapped hearts, hot glue the hearts onto a long piece of yarn to create the perfect garland, or just place the hearts in a large bowl.

Wine Cork Wreath

Have a bunch of wine corks laying around after holiday festivities? Put them to good use and make the perfect DIY craft! To create a wine cork heart wreath, take wine corks, a hot glue gun, a piece of paper, and a pen. Start by drawing a heart on a piece of paper to the size you would like your wreath to be. Next, line up your corks on your drawing, and once you are happy with each wine cork's position, start hot gluing each cork in place to create the perfect Valentine’s Day cork heart wreath. Once your wreath is dry, you can choose to hang it on your front door, wall, or anywhere you please.

Purchase Valentine's Day Decor

If you don't want to tackle any DIY projects, check out your local craft or dollar store for some Valentine’s Day décor. You could pick up some red or pink pillows and heart-shaped garland to spruce up your apartment and help you feel more festive. Or simply buy a bouquet of flowers from your local market or florist. Some cheerful roses or tulips in a vase can help you feel more in the Valentine’s Day spirit.

Romantic decor is great all year long, but it's especially welcome around Valentine's Day. Hopefully, these ideas will inspire you to make your apartment a place you love.
