Boats dot San Diego Bay

Whether you are planning a relocation to the greater San Diego area or ready to try living in a new neighborhood, the city has many wonderful gems to suit everyone's unique wish list. From more serene areas overlooking the mountains to breezy beach towns, these San Diego neighborhoods are a renter’s paradise. Rent in San Diego can get expensive, so be sure to compare your favorite neighborhoods to find one that works best for your lifestyle and your budget.

Affordable Beachside Living in Ocean Beach

If you enjoy living steps from the sea but you don’t think you can afford a beachside locale, think again! Ocean Beach, a quaint little beach town just north of the Point Loma area, is situated along the famous Sunset Cliffs just minutes from downtown San Diego. Stroll along the town's main street, Newport Avenue, to do your grocery shopping. From local artisans to bakeries to farmers selling beautiful produce, you'll always feel right at home with your neighbors amid the shops and music. If you love to surf, the Ocean Beach Pier and Sunset Cliffs provide waves you’ll crave.

International Flair in Little Italy

Like getting around without a car? Little Italy is pedestrian-friendly with access to public transportation in the form of a charming trolley. This fun-loving, lively neighborhood is just a short walk from beloved San Diego destinations like the Museum of Contemporary Art, as well as a few must-visit local destinations like the Piazza della Famiglia, which features cobblestone streets and a tiled fountain for true European flair. If “modern meets old world charm” is your style, you’ll love renting in Little Italy! We haven’t even mentioned the food, which is reason enough for moving to this delightful neighborhood.

Slightly Suburban Bay Park

Situated just above the famous Mission Bay Park, the views from this neighborhood are priceless. On clear days, you can see clear to Mexico and up to the cross on top of Mt. Soledad to the north. While it’s on the outskirts of downtown, Bay Park has a suburban feel with several parks and two town centers to explore. Even though it feels peaceful, an apartment in Bay Park will give you fast access to La Jolla, Pacific Beach, and Old Town.

Discover the Charm of Kensington

Historic Kensington is located on the east side of San Diego in the Mid-City area. The architecture here is noteworthy, consisting of beautiful Victorian houses and charming bungalows tucked into the hilly landscape. This walkable neighborhood is perfect for an afternoon of window-shopping the many boutiques that line the streets, along with organic restaurants and other locally owned businesses. A variety of community events, including a farmer’s market and movie nights, add to Kensington’s delightful charm. Did we mention it’s right next to Balboa Park?

Escape to Encanto

Located just south of Downtown San Diego, Encanto is filled with single-family houses, condos, and apartments in a variety of styles and sizes. The neighborhood was created in 1907 as a community of small farms. It still has that rural feel to it, even though it’s minutes from Downtown San Diego. At the heart of this picture-perfect neighborhood, Emerald Hills Park provides a place where you can enjoy the idyllic landscape or take your furry best pal for a walk.

While these five neighborhoods are terrific for renters, San Diego is filled with fantastic neighborhoods, each with unique character and benefits. Compare the San Diego neighborhoods you're interested in to find your place in the sun!
